Tent Elves on Tour

Question: What does a tent elf do when the season is over?

Answer: Escapes in the elf-mobile! (AKA Starfire, our old but adorable motorhome)

The Elf-Mobile

Our second season was wonderful, we met so many lovely guests who all had amazing adventures on the beautiful Norfolk Coast but it was also extremely physically demanding so as soon as the season was over we were ready for a bit of escapism and Zzzzzzz.

Our only plan was to turn right at the end of our drive (if we turn left we end up on the Norfolk Coast which obviously isn't a bad thing but we were ready for our own adventure discovering new places), NO motorways, not travelling for more than 2 hours in a day and to stop and explore every county on route.

This turned out to be the best plan ever and we were very fortunate to enjoy almost 3 weeks of exploring counties we have only passed through before when travelling to a final destination.

From Norfolk we headed through the Fens of Cambridgeshire, quaint villages of Northamptonshire, the smallest county of Rutland, Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, the beautiful Peak District National Park, many canals in Staffordshire and Cheshire, fascinating Shropshire and ultimately ended up in North and Mid Wales before heading home across country.

Each day we found walks in areas we liked the sound of using inspiration from The Outdoor Guide, iFootpath and each counties tourist information websites. This was such a lovely way to explore our counties, the walks took us to some jaw-dropping places and we spent quality time soaking up each and every moment.

Our nightly stops were all very different, from small certified sites from the Camping and Caravanning Club to Britstops in pubs and even car parks in city centres. Every location had it's own uniqueness from sharing a field with sheep on a farm (interesting neighbours!) to pitching high on a ridge with far reaching views over the Cheshire Plains to our very own waterfall in Wales!!

We do live in a beautiful country and by having no real destination to head for meant we got to experience a snippet of each counties beauty and splendour that we passed through and do you know what? We couldn't have been happier........

Its good to have an end to journey toward, but its the journey that matters in the end......
