Story Behind the Pic – 1

Story Behind the Pic March and April are usually a manic time for me, with enquiries and bookings coming in fast and getting all our equipment cleaned and ready to pack for the beginning of our season. BUT obviously all of that came to a complete stand still once the Covid-19 pandemic hit us all hard. So, I’m using my time to do all the things I’ve wanted to do for a while but just haven’t had the time (or if I’m totally honest the motivation) such as reorganising all my electronic business files and having a good sort out of ALL my photos on my phone and there are a lot! BUT I’ve found it’s been a very positive experience, that I really need during these difficult times. I’ve revisited my business journey and it’s brought back so many happy memories plus all the emotions of setting up a business which for me were […]

Our holidays and Covid-19 – update

19th March 2020:  The time has come to make some very difficult decisions. Although our holidays are fairly low risk, we do not want to be contributing to any unnecessary risk in any way. With this in mind, we have decided to cancel/postpone all our holidays booked throughout May and will assess the situation as we near the month of June. However, we are very happy to accept provisional bookings from the beginning of July onwards with no payment required until we know if your holiday can go ahead. So, if you would like to have a holiday to look forward to after the Coronavirus situation is over, the do get in touch and we’ll provisionally book you in! In the meantime, we wish you all continued safety and health and very much look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Norfolk Coast very soon!   16th March 2020:  As the Coronavirus situation escalates, adapting […]

Rural Business Awards UK Finals

In October 2019 we were the very proud (and shocked) winners of The Best Rural Tourism Business in the East at the Rural Business Awards. This meant we were automatically made a finalist in the UK Rural Business Awards…….Wowsers! little ol’ us! So, last Thursday (27th February) I managed to squeeze myself into a a posh (well posh for me) little black dress and off I went to the rather impressive The Monastery in Manchester. A lovely venue to arrive to with a red carpet (not just for me, LOL) and glasses of bubbles to get the evening started. I was very pleased to see the lovely owners of The Itteringham Community Shop also there, who had won 2 awards in their categories. A delicious 3 course meal was next. I sat on a table with 2 other businesses, Ballinger Equine and Ark Farm Ltd. It’s always such a pleasure talking to other businesses and […]

Introducing…Little Elfie

We’re very excited to introduce to you, the newest member (and teeny tiniest member) of the MarGins Tent Elf family, Little Elfie! Do you like the name?? We just couldn’t resist it and she really does suit it. We’d been talking about getting another pooch for a few years but always ended up talking ourselves out of it, mainly due to worrying that Miss Brylie wouldn’t accept another dog in the family and the last thing we wanted to do was upset our beautiful girl. Miss Brylie is such a good girl, we can take her anywhere. The only problem was with other dogs coming to our home. She has a dominant side that just doesn’t accept another adult dog in our home that well. We hoped that deciding to introduce her to a puppy wouldn’t be seen as a threat but more of a “what the heck is that?” and hoping her maternal side […]

WINNERS!!! Best Rural Tourism Business in the East

Oh my giddy aunt!! We only went and won the award for The Best Rural Tourism Business in the East at the Rural Business Awards last Friday 1st November at Trinity Park in Ipswich. We’ve won two awards now this year and we really couldn’t be more proud, delighted, a tad giddy and I have to say shocked and overwhelmed to be honest. Setting up a business is never going to be easy, I’ve said all of this before but when you have a ‘seed of an idea’ and then pluck up the courage to give it a go, to then watch and feel it grow and develop, is immensely satisfying, rewarding…….and flipping hard work! The Rural Business Awards are now in their 5th year following another ‘seed of an idea’ made over a farmhouse kitchen table in rural Leicestershire, wanting to make a difference to the profile of rural businesses in the UK. When we […]

Help for Homeless Hounds

We love welcoming dogs on our holidays. I can’t imagine not including my gorgeous Miss Brylie when we plan our holidays. They love the adventure and change of scenery as much as we do. The bond we have with our dogs is incredibly special. The unconditional love they give us without any judgement is invaluable and needed, especially after a long or difficult day. Living on the streets is not something that thankfully, most of us will ever experience or understand. So having the companionship of a pet, I can only imagine, can be the one thing that gives you a reason to carry on each day and care for your friend and soul mate. Earlier this year I spent some time chatting with a lady on Brick Lane in London who had a dog and a cat. They are her world but the challenges she has on a day to day basis to keep […]

Solo travellers

There is something really quite magical about totally immersing yourself in nature but not everyone feels safe doing this on their own. I absolutely love my walks (and research) along the coast path with my gorgeous pooch (and chief tent supervisor) Miss Brylie. The freedom of walking at your own pace, stopping when you want to watch and listen to wildlife, take photos, relishing those magical coffee and cake stop moments sat on that bench that was just too inviting to walk past or nestled amongst a sand dune looking out over a vast expanse of beautiful beach or maybe that conveniently fallen log or branch that’s just enough to perch on……I could go on. The North Norfolk Coast is perfect for solo travellers due to the perfect mix of sections of complete solitude but never being far away from civilisation with pretty villages and places to eat and drink dotted along the way. We’re […]

When Pebble Magazine came to Norfolk

I love the whole ethos behind Pebble Magazine: Being good to the planet often means starting small and being good to ourselves. Supporting businesses that have developed fairer ways of trading and making choices that lighten the load of your life on the planet. What we’d really like is just to say we’re a magazine about living a good life full of adventures and for all this talk of eco this and ethical that not be needed any more, because it’s just the way we all do things.  Winning the Environment Award at the North Norfolk DC Business Awards this year was one of our proudest moments, so when Georgina (founder and editor of Pebble Magazine) and her partner agreed to experience our new Sandmartin Walking Holiday we were absolutely thrilled plus interested to find out what they thought of our sustainable tourism business ethos. I think it’s fair to say they both had an […]

A ‘Muddy Stilettos’ MarGins Adventure

We were absolutely delighted when Helen, the editor from Muddy Stilettos Norfolk and her partner, booked our Curlew Plus Walking Holiday in July. This year we were incredibly proud to make the finals of the Muddy Stilettos Awards in the Best Boutique Stay category, so it was an honour to welcome them both on a MarGins Adventure. I think it’s best if you click HERE to read all about their incredible journey for yourself. It literally gave me goosebumps when I read their review. Helen has managed to capture the absolute essence of our holidays and we couldn’t be more pleased with their account of a MarGins adventure on the beautiful Norfolk Coast……..   A few quotes from the review: “I love Norfolk and this is possibly the best way to see our diverse and beautiful coastline. I’ve visited many of the beaches en route but travelling by foot allows you to see some of the great […]
