Muddy Stilettos Award Finalist

Muddy Stilettos Finalists

It’s been quite a year for us, first winning the Environment Award at The North Norfolk District Council Business Awards and then we were nominated for Best Boutique Stay in the Muddy Stilettos Norfolk Awards. I have to be honest, I was pretty shocked we were nominated in the first place but to make it into the final 5! Norfolk has some amazingly gorgeous places to stay and although our holidays are quite unique and exclusive I wouldn’t have thought our tents were classed as a boutique stay. BUT WOW! they were and we’re immensely proud to have got that far. A huge congratulations to all the Muddy Stilettos Award Winners and to The Norfolk Mead hotel who won the Best Boutique Stay category (totally get that!).

Deep History Coast

The Deep History Coast

Did you know that all of our Walking Holidays meander through some, if not all, of Norfolk’s Deep History Coast? Norfolk’s coast has revealed some of the most spectacular finds. Happisburgh is the oldest archaeological site in Northern Europe and West Runton yielded the most complete fossilised mammoth skeleton ever found in the UK. The soft clay cliffs of this part of Norfolk’s coast (between Weybourne and Cart Gap at Happisburgh) are considered the best place to study Ice Age geology in the UK – we have the fastest receding coastline in Europe. As soon as they appear, new finds can be worn down or buried; leaving archaeologists to do their work in a race against time and tide. Finds on the Deep History Coast have provided the earliest evidence for human occupation so far discovered in northern Europe. They place early humans here in Norfolk some 350,000 years earlier than had been thought. They also […]

Tent Elves on Tour

Question: What does a tent elf do when the season is over? Answer: Escapes in the elf-mobile! (AKA Starfire, our old but adorable motorhome) The Elf-Mobile Our second season was wonderful, we met so many lovely guests who all had amazing adventures on the beautiful Norfolk Coast but it was also extremely physically demanding so as soon as the season was over we were ready for a bit of escapism and Zzzzzzz. Our only plan was to turn right at the end of our drive (if we turn left we end up on the Norfolk Coast which obviously isn’t a bad thing but we were ready for our own adventure discovering new places), NO motorways, not travelling for more than 2 hours in a day and to stop and explore every county on route. This turned out to be the best plan ever and we were very fortunate to enjoy almost 3 weeks of exploring […]

‘Love Norfolk’s’ MarGins adventure

As you know, 2017 was MarGins first year. So, when Jess from Love Norfolk offered to ‘trial and review’ one of our holidays with her partner, obviously we jumped at the chance. Jess has a real passion for all things Norfolk and loves the big outdoors, so was up for a MarGins Walking Adventure. I’ll be honest, we were a tad nervous as this was one of our first walking holidays for guests. Had we included everything they may need? Is there enough food and drink? Will the weather be kind?? We were very relieved that the answer was yes to our questions, even the weather was reasonably kind, especially on the first and last day (typical) and Jess managed to take some amazing photo’s that totally capture what our holidays and the beautiful Norfolk Coast is all about. Click here to read all about Jess’s MarGins adventure and absolutely stunning photo’s. We would like […]

We made the finals…

I have to pinch myself to think that this time last year we were in the first couple of months of launching MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays, full of anticipation and fear but mostly enthusiasm, commitment and belief. It’s really quite scary making that decision to ‘start a business’. All those unanswered questions such as “how will we survive financially?” “will anyone want to book one of our holidays?” “will they like what we do?” “where do we start?” “how do I market this business?” and the biggy “are we doing the right thing?”. Last night we attended the Norfolk Norfolk District Council (NNDC) Business Awards Ceremony as a finalist in the New Business category. It was the first time NNDC had put on these awards so we really didn’t know what to expect when we arrived. It was held at the lovely Greshams School in the attractive town of Holt and were instantly made […]

Meeting Julia

Walking is so ‘in’ right now! Did you see ITV’s Britains 100 Favourite Walks? A whole two and a half hours of walking inspiration. Who would have thought that walking programmes would make prime time TV? Julia Bradbury has played a big part in making walking so popular and I must have watched most, if not all, of her programmes on walking. Wainwrights Walks, Countryfile, Best Walks with a View, Britains Best Walks….. Last weekend we were very lucky to meet Julia Bradbury at The Destinations Show at Olympia in London. Julia was interviewed on the Stanfords Travel Writers Show stage, talking very openly about her passion for walking and where it all started. It was her father who encouraged her to go on walking adventures with him when she was quite young. This really hit home for me, I have such lovely memories of my late father encouraging us to ‘get outside and explore’ […]

Walk this way….

OK, hands up if you’ve already lapsed on your New Years resolutions…….. I don’t make resolutions anymore but try to do more of the things that bring me happiness…….which mainly consists of walking and getting out in the big outdoors. I absolutely love my daily walk with Miss Brylie (beloved pooch). The lovely Claire Gurney is a specialist fitness and Pilates instructor based at Treat in Norwich, Norfolk who we’ve teamed up with to offer the magical Back to Nature Weekends. I asked Claire to put into words why walking is so good for us: Walk Your Way to Health Walking is one of the easiest, cheapest and most enjoyable forms of exercise around. As seasoned walkers will know, walking is so much more than just an activity to keep us fit. It has many health benefits, most which can be achieved from as little as 20 minutes of brisk walking each day. Here are some […]

The making of the MarGins film

I’ve met some really inspirational and motivated people at the various networking events I’ve been to over the last year. In July, I set up one of our Glamping tents at a networking event being held at Holkham Studios by Genix. Such a lovely location and a great opportunity to ‘show off’ our lovely tents in all their glory and talk to lot’s of people about what we offer. It was towards the end of the event that I had a discussion with James, who had just set up his own business, Expedition Studio, providing creative services including film production, illustration, graphic design, 3D modelling, visualisations, photography and virtual reality. James was really interested in our walking holidays and seemed to have a really good idea of what we offer our guests. So I mentioned that we would like to create a film that could tell the story of our unique holidays and the rest […]
