Meeting Julia

Walking is so ‘in’ right now!

Did you see ITV’s Britains 100 Favourite Walks? A whole two and a half hours of walking inspiration. Who would have thought that walking programmes would make prime time TV?

Julia and the tent elves

Julia Bradbury has played a big part in making walking so popular and I must have watched most, if not all, of her programmes on walking. Wainwrights Walks, Countryfile, Best Walks with a View, Britains Best Walks…..

Last weekend we were very lucky to meet Julia Bradbury at The Destinations Show at Olympia in London. Julia was interviewed on the Stanfords Travel Writers Show stage, talking very openly about her passion for walking and where it all started. It was her father who encouraged her to go on walking adventures with him when she was quite young.

This really hit home for me, I have such lovely memories of my late father encouraging us to ‘get outside and explore’ as children. He had a great sense of adventure and a zest for getting as much out of life as possible. I have to admit this wasn’t so easy in my younger years due to my shyness and insecurities. But it all paid off, as he has definitely managed to embed the desire to explore and make my own adventures. I’m sure he’s looking down on me and smiling when I’m setting up tents now for our guests walking the Norfolk Coast Path, enabling them to create their own adventure, make memories and enjoy the big outdoors.

Gina, Debbie & the tent elves

We are very proud to be partners with The Outdoor Guide who promote our walking and glamping holidays for us. The founder, Gina, is Julia’s sister and equally as passionate about promoting walking for everyone, not just the hard core hikers. The Outdoor Guide team were exhibiting at The Destinations Show and couldn’t have made us more welcome. Julia is a very proactive member of the team and so we jumped at the chance to meet her when Gina offered to introduce us.

Unforgettable Walks

Glamping all the way!

Julia was lovely to talk to and very interested in our business. You never know, Julia and her family may come Glamping on the Norfolk Coast one day…….Now that would be awesome!

We also had the privilege of meeting Debbie North who continues to explore the countryside even when a spinal condition curtailed her walking. Debbie always loved hiking and refused to let her condition stop her from pursuing her passion. Debbie is now part of The Outdoor Guide team making the inaccessible accessible. Read more about Debbie and Access The Outdoor Guide here.

All of the Britains 100 Favourite Walks are listed on The Outdoor Guide website. Norfolk was featured 3 times, The Norfolk Coast Path at No.71, Blakeney Point at No. 68 and Wells-next-the-Sea at No. 42.

You can experience all of the Norfolk locations in our Walking and Glamping Holidays:

  • The Norfolk Coast Path is a National Trail commencing from Hunstanton on the North Norfolk Coast and finishing 84 miles later in Hopton-on-Sea on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. You can walk this on our Avocet Walking Holiday
  • Blakeney Point and Wells-next-the-Sea are both locations on our Avocet and Curlew Walking Holidays. The Curlew Holiday commences in Hunstanton and ends 47 miles later on the iconic Cromer Pier
  • Or, if you would like to explore one area we will set up our fully equipped tents for you on a campsite of your choice along the Norfolk Coast. Check out our Glamping Holidays for more information.

Go on…….make your own adventure this year. You’ll be very welcome on the Norfolk Coast 🙂
