Muddy Stilettos Award Finalist

Muddy Stilettos Finalists

It’s been quite a year for us, first winning the Environment Award at The North Norfolk District Council Business Awards and then we were nominated for Best Boutique Stay in the Muddy Stilettos Norfolk Awards. I have to be honest, I was pretty shocked we were nominated in the first place but to make it into the final 5! Norfolk has some amazingly gorgeous places to stay and although our holidays are quite unique and exclusive I wouldn’t have thought our tents were classed as a boutique stay. BUT WOW! they were and we’re immensely proud to have got that far. A huge congratulations to all the Muddy Stilettos Award Winners and to The Norfolk Mead hotel who won the Best Boutique Stay category (totally get that!).

The tent elf team!

We are truly blessed this year to have a small but perfect team of enthusiastic and motivated tent elves. I’ve run a business before and know how attracting the right people to join your team is such an important element of your businesses success (or not!). MarGins holidays are based purely on logistics, providing essential equipment for our guests comfort and safety and thinking on your feet on a regular basis. We don’t work set hours and being a very small business, we really can’t afford to offer anyone full time employment.     We are delighted that David, a family friend, would like to support us again this year. His help last year was simply awesome and there were day’s I quite simply could not have coped without him……a storm on Happisburgh cliffs springs to mind!! This year we’re delighted to welcome on board Kelly who has an absolute zest for the outdoors, […]

Thank You 2018

Seeing some of the great #2018bestnine posts on Instagram really got me reflecting on our second season and what we’ve achieved this year. We can be very quick to linger on the negatives that we don’t celebrate the positives, so I’d like to share with you some positive moments for MarGins during 2018: In January we met the fabulously inspiring team from The Outdoor Guide at the Destinations Show in London and Julia Bradbury. Julia’s love for the big outdoors stems from walking the countryside with her father when she was young. This really resonated with me as my zest for adventure and exploring the big outdoors, also comes from my wonderful late fathers attitude to enjoying the simple things in life       We were finalists in the North Norfolk District Council Business Awards 2018. It was a wonderful event to attend and we felt very proud to have been considered for an […]

Mini Deepdale at The Royal Norfolk Show

What a fabulous couple of days we’ve just had at The Royal Norfolk Show. Being a new and small business, attending a show that large wouldn’t normally be something we would have considered (mainly due to a very limited budget) but when Jason from Deepdale Backpackers and Camping asked us to join them to promote a Mini Deepdale Stand we thought it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. Retro Campers Norfolk and The Norfolk Coast Partnership (who manage our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) also joined us and Norfolk Trails (who manage and maintain our National Trails in Norfolk) provided a fabulous Norfolk Coast Path sign for us to display (of which I got a tad excited about!) and walking information on the Norfolk Trails. The weather was absolutely amazing! 2 days of back to back sunshine which brought the crowds in their thousands. We had lots of really positive interest in our holidays as […]

#LitterHeroes

Litter picking habit  For quite a few years now we’ve been picking up litter from our local area and beaches, I’ve written a previous blog on my ‘litter habit’. So we jumped at the chance to join forces with The Outdoor Guides initiative with, Julia Bradbury, Keep Britain Tidy and Trail Magazine to encourage others to start (or continue) to pick up litter that has been so selfishly discarded in our environment, by providing a handy bag that can be stuffed in your pocket or backpack when out walking.  All our guests are now receiving a bag to encourage litter picking whilst on our holidays plus we’ll be giving them out at promotional events when we showcase our tents and holidays. You never know what you’ll find when out litter picking. It’s mostly cans, bottles and fast food containers but whilst out on a lovely walk along the Norfolk Coast we randomly found a […]

Meeting Julia

Walking is so ‘in’ right now! Did you see ITV’s Britains 100 Favourite Walks? A whole two and a half hours of walking inspiration. Who would have thought that walking programmes would make prime time TV? Julia Bradbury has played a big part in making walking so popular and I must have watched most, if not all, of her programmes on walking. Wainwrights Walks, Countryfile, Best Walks with a View, Britains Best Walks….. Last weekend we were very lucky to meet Julia Bradbury at The Destinations Show at Olympia in London. Julia was interviewed on the Stanfords Travel Writers Show stage, talking very openly about her passion for walking and where it all started. It was her father who encouraged her to go on walking adventures with him when she was quite young. This really hit home for me, I have such lovely memories of my late father encouraging us to ‘get outside and explore’ […]

Walk this way….

OK, hands up if you’ve already lapsed on your New Years resolutions…….. I don’t make resolutions anymore but try to do more of the things that bring me happiness…….which mainly consists of walking and getting out in the big outdoors. I absolutely love my daily walk with Miss Brylie (beloved pooch). The lovely Claire Gurney is a specialist fitness and Pilates instructor based at Treat in Norwich, Norfolk who we’ve teamed up with to offer the magical Back to Nature Weekends. I asked Claire to put into words why walking is so good for us: Walk Your Way to Health Walking is one of the easiest, cheapest and most enjoyable forms of exercise around. As seasoned walkers will know, walking is so much more than just an activity to keep us fit. It has many health benefits, most which can be achieved from as little as 20 minutes of brisk walking each day. Here are some […]
