MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays

The making of the MarGins film

I’ve met some really inspirational and motivated people at the various networking events I’ve been to over the last year. In July, I set up one of our Glamping tents at a networking event being held at Holkham Studios by Genix. Such a lovely location and a great opportunity to ‘show off’ our lovely tents in all their glory and talk to lot’s of people about what we offer. It was towards the end of the event that I had a discussion with James, who had just set up his own business, Expedition Studio, providing creative services including film production, illustration, graphic design, 3D modelling, visualisations, photography and virtual reality. James was really interested in our walking holidays and seemed to have a really good idea of what we offer our guests. So I mentioned that we would like to create a film that could tell the story of our unique holidays and the rest […]

My adventure….a year on (2)

Communication! So many ways to do this these days but for me, I still think it’s good to talk! Communication is something that comes up time and time again as one of the most important elements in business, it can very quickly become overlooked due to many reasons, but usually it’s down to excessive workload and lack of time keeping and organisation. From the beginning of ‘my adventure’ I was adamant that communication would be my top priority with all our stakeholders, no matter how busy or tired I got. I’m not a business or management specialist but I know that, for me, how I’m greeted and spoken to makes a big difference on the outcome of whether I would like to engage with that person and pursue a conversation and ultimately form a partnership with them. Starting a new business is never going to be easy but looking back over the last year, communication […]

MarGins Family Glamping

Since launching MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays we’ve often been asked if we can accommodate families. Our standard set up is for 2 people in our wonderful safari style tents, which is perfect for people wanting to walk the Norfolk Coast Path or couples fancying a hassle free Glamping holiday but this wasn’t a suitable option for families. So! how could we start to accommodate families without changing our tents and keeping the unique look and feel of a MarGins holiday? Oztent, as usual, had the answer. They have produced a ‘connector strip’ which zips 2 Oztents together to provide ample space for 4 people (more if there are little children). Result!! I met up with Andy from Enjoy North Norfolk for a coffee in Holt and it soon became apparent we both shared a great love of Norfolk and the North Norfolk Coast, wanting to provide people with unique opportunities to fully experience all […]

Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path Passport launch

“The Norfolk Trails team is very pleased to announce that they will be launching their Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path Passport this Friday, just in time for the May bank holiday weekend! The passport is available to purchase from a number of Tourist Information Centres including Norwich, Thetford, Cromer, Holt, Great Yarmouth, Burnham Deepdale and Sheringham, as well as from Waxham Barn and the Muckleburgh Collection. The passport is an extensive guidebook of the National Trail in Norfolk and one of the only publications to include the new 21 miles of coastal access between Sea Palling and Hopton-on-Sea. It splits the National Trail up into walk sections, and provides detailed maps and descriptions of each walk section as well as highlighting local cafes, pubs, accommodation and the circular walks that spur from the National Trail. Each walk has its own bespoke stamp, unique to each collection, so all you have to do is enjoy […]

I walk because……

May is National Walking Month National Walking Month is a campaign to promote the benefits of walking and to get everyone walking, no matter what your level of fitness is.  Walking is simple and free and one of the easiest ways to be more active, lose weight and become healthier. I think it’s fair to say, I love walking. I’m not what you would call an experienced hiker, just a lover of getting out there and exploring the big outdoors and all it has to offer. Over the last few years it’s become a big part of my life for so many reasons: I walk because I can – after experiencing deteriorating mobility issues, I feared my love of walking was going to be severely compromised, but following some major surgery to restructure my pelvis, I’ve gone from strength to strength and ‘bagged’ The Hadrian’s Wall National Trail in 2016 I walk because it helps […]

A touch of Norfolk ‘magic’

My small business adventure continues…….. Since my last blog, it’s fair to say a lot has happened. From radio interviews to setting up our tents for the first time for guests on the Norfolk Coast. Today though, I want to focus on something that has really stood out for me on my small business adventure……Our Norfolk Food Producers! This venture is all about enabling people to enjoy the breathtaking Norfolk Coastline and all it has to offer. Part of that offer is introducing our guests to the exquisite Norfolk culinary delights that are produced right on our doorstep, in a daily breakfast hamper. From the outset of meeting some of the Norfolk food producers at markets and fairs, what has shone out the most was their passion and absolute dedication for what they do. We have since visited each producer and are in absolute awe of the commitment, dedication and expertise of each and every one of […]

Heart to Heart

The last 10 days have been a bit of a whirlwind for so many reasons. I think it’s fair to say ‘my adventure’ continues and I’m embracing and learning from every moment of it. Since my last blog so much has happened, such as purchasing a van that will become my ‘Glamp-mobile’, we’ve got more bookings and lot’s of interest in our holidays (phew!), forming some great partnerships with Norfolk business’s all along the Norfolk Coast Path (some that have the potential to offer quite unique packages to our guests) and much more. But the last week has really been a chance to reflect on my MarGins adventure and the realisation of where we’ve managed to get to in such a short period of time. Last Monday (13 February) I was contacted by The British Heart Foundation (BHF) to see if there was anything MarGins could do to support a guy called Kieran Sandwell who […]
