MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays

Story behind the pic 5

Our first ever setting up of our tents for some lovely (& very brave) guests who agreed to trial them for us. Easter 2017!! The campsite at Stiffkey were incredibly kind giving us they’re prime pitches to set up on with amazing views over the saltmarshes BUT it was a Bank Holiday so I think it’s fair to say the weather wasn’t kind!! Our poor guests didn’t get a chance to sit & admire the view as the wind & rain was coming straight off the Marshes!! 😱💨☔️🏕 Hey ho!! The tents, us & our guests were certainly tested that weekend. Amazingly, the tents stayed up (every peg was used!!) and we all somehow managed to enjoy the weekend, phew!

Story behind the pic 4

Gosh! we have some amazing food & drink producers in Norfolk. We knew from the outset we wanted to provide our guests with a delicious hamper of local produce. The amazing Christmas Market at Dalegate Market was perfect for our research (and the best kind of research, Yum!). It didn’t take long to find delicious products, the hardest part was deciding what to include with so much to choose from. But the best part (apart from the eating of course) was meeting the people behind the produce and hearing their story behind their business. It means so much more knowing how much love, commitment and knowledge that goes into every item made. Plus, the producers couldn’t have been more supportive to our new business, which really helped with our confidence and motivation. I wrote a blog about it which you can read here These are very difficult times for us all. As a small and […]

Story behind the pic 2

Glampy – our extremely valued member of the team, our van. The time had come to decide what van to purchase to transport all our ‘stuff’. I think the conversation went something like: Gin – “I’d really like a VW transporter” Mark – “What on our budget?!?! We have to get a van that will fit the tents in and everything else” So, off we went to view a variety of vans to see which ones would meet our requirements and could afford. Would you believe the only van that would comfortably fit our tents in lengthwise was a VW After a lot of searching, we finally found one that looked in good condition in Peterborough. Off we went in my beloved Audi A1 that I would be trading in and did the deal. Over the following few weeks, Mark and a fabulous friend kitted out Glampy to fit everything in. They performed a miracle […]

Story Behind the Pic – 1

Story Behind the Pic March and April are usually a manic time for me, with enquiries and bookings coming in fast and getting all our equipment cleaned and ready to pack for the beginning of our season. BUT obviously all of that came to a complete stand still once the Covid-19 pandemic hit us all hard. So, I’m using my time to do all the things I’ve wanted to do for a while but just haven’t had the time (or if I’m totally honest the motivation) such as reorganising all my electronic business files and having a good sort out of ALL my photos on my phone and there are a lot! BUT I’ve found it’s been a very positive experience, that I really need during these difficult times. I’ve revisited my business journey and it’s brought back so many happy memories plus all the emotions of setting up a business which for me were […]

Our holidays and Covid-19 – update

13th May 2020:  Following the recent announcement of The Governments Recovery Plan and the ‘Road Map’ we have had to make the difficult decision to NOT take any bookings this season for our Walking Holidays. We would not be able to guarantee availability on all of the campsites at such short notice plus the health and safety is our absolute priority. We are hoping that some of our Glamping Holidays will still be able to go ahead throughout August and September. If you would like to make a provisional booking please get in touch and we’ll put the dates on hold for you if available. No payment will be asked for until we know if your holiday can go ahead. Stay safe and alert everyone Gin, Mark, Miss Brylie and Little Elfie xx   19th April 2020:  I’m afraid we still have no idea when we will be allowed to go ahead with our holidays […]

WINNERS!!! Best Rural Tourism Business in the East

Oh my giddy aunt!! We only went and won the award for The Best Rural Tourism Business in the East at the Rural Business Awards last Friday 1st November at Trinity Park in Ipswich. We’ve won two awards now this year and we really couldn’t be more proud, delighted, a tad giddy and I have to say shocked and overwhelmed to be honest. Setting up a business is never going to be easy, I’ve said all of this before but when you have a ‘seed of an idea’ and then pluck up the courage to give it a go, to then watch and feel it grow and develop, is immensely satisfying, rewarding…….and flipping hard work! The Rural Business Awards are now in their 5th year following another ‘seed of an idea’ made over a farmhouse kitchen table in rural Leicestershire, wanting to make a difference to the profile of rural businesses in the UK. When we […]

Solo travellers

There is something really quite magical about totally immersing yourself in nature but not everyone feels safe doing this on their own. I absolutely love my walks (and research) along the coast path with my gorgeous pooch (and chief tent supervisor) Miss Brylie. The freedom of walking at your own pace, stopping when you want to watch and listen to wildlife, take photos, relishing those magical coffee and cake stop moments sat on that bench that was just too inviting to walk past or nestled amongst a sand dune looking out over a vast expanse of beautiful beach or maybe that conveniently fallen log or branch that’s just enough to perch on……I could go on. The North Norfolk Coast is perfect for solo travellers due to the perfect mix of sections of complete solitude but never being far away from civilisation with pretty villages and places to eat and drink dotted along the way. We’re […]

When Pebble Magazine came to Norfolk

I love the whole ethos behind Pebble Magazine: Being good to the planet often means starting small and being good to ourselves. Supporting businesses that have developed fairer ways of trading and making choices that lighten the load of your life on the planet. What we’d really like is just to say we’re a magazine about living a good life full of adventures and for all this talk of eco this and ethical that not be needed any more, because it’s just the way we all do things.  Winning the Environment Award at the North Norfolk DC Business Awards this year was one of our proudest moments, so when Georgina (founder and editor of Pebble Magazine) and her partner agreed to experience our new Sandmartin Walking Holiday we were absolutely thrilled plus interested to find out what they thought of our sustainable tourism business ethos. I think it’s fair to say they both had an […]

Walking the North Norfolk Coast Path – travel blog

This year we’ve seen an increase in solo travellers booking our walking holidays. We’re absolutely delighted that our guests feel well informed and most importantly safe and secure knowing that their logistics and accommodation are all taken care of whilst they fully immerse themselves in relaxing and enjoying their unique adventure on the beautiful Norfolk Coast. Read all about Amanda’s experience of her first long distance walking trail on our Curlew Holiday. Make a cuppa, sit down and immerse yourself in reading all about her beautiful adventure: Day 1 – Wide Open Skies  “It’s at this point that I should add that I have never done any long distance walking. At all. The beauty of MarGins is that they do all the hard work –minus the walking that is! They set up, take down and move on a fully equipped OZ Tent, along with your luggage. They do all the bookings and provide you with […]
