WINNERS!!! Best Rural Tourism Business in the East

Oh my giddy aunt!! We only went and won the award for The Best Rural Tourism Business in the East at the Rural Business Awards last Friday 1st November at Trinity Park in Ipswich. We’ve won two awards now this year and we really couldn’t be more proud, delighted, a tad giddy and I have to say shocked and overwhelmed to be honest. Setting up a business is never going to be easy, I’ve said all of this before but when you have a ‘seed of an idea’ and then pluck up the courage to give it a go, to then watch and feel it grow and develop, is immensely satisfying, rewarding…….and flipping hard work! The Rural Business Awards are now in their 5th year following another ‘seed of an idea’ made over a farmhouse kitchen table in rural Leicestershire, wanting to make a difference to the profile of rural businesses in the UK. When we […]

Solo travellers

There is something really quite magical about totally immersing yourself in nature but not everyone feels safe doing this on their own. I absolutely love my walks (and research) along the coast path with my gorgeous pooch (and chief tent supervisor) Miss Brylie. The freedom of walking at your own pace, stopping when you want to watch and listen to wildlife, take photos, relishing those magical coffee and cake stop moments sat on that bench that was just too inviting to walk past or nestled amongst a sand dune looking out over a vast expanse of beautiful beach or maybe that conveniently fallen log or branch that’s just enough to perch on……I could go on. The North Norfolk Coast is perfect for solo travellers due to the perfect mix of sections of complete solitude but never being far away from civilisation with pretty villages and places to eat and drink dotted along the way. We’re […]

When Pebble Magazine came to Norfolk

I love the whole ethos behind Pebble Magazine: Being good to the planet often means starting small and being good to ourselves. Supporting businesses that have developed fairer ways of trading and making choices that lighten the load of your life on the planet. What we’d really like is just to say we’re a magazine about living a good life full of adventures and for all this talk of eco this and ethical that not be needed any more, because it’s just the way we all do things.  Winning the Environment Award at the North Norfolk DC Business Awards this year was one of our proudest moments, so when Georgina (founder and editor of Pebble Magazine) and her partner agreed to experience our new Sandmartin Walking Holiday we were absolutely thrilled plus interested to find out what they thought of our sustainable tourism business ethos. I think it’s fair to say they both had an […]

MarGins Curlew Walking Holiday

Walking the North Norfolk Coast Path – travel blog

This year we’ve seen an increase in solo travellers booking our walking holidays. We’re absolutely delighted that our guests feel well informed and most importantly safe and secure knowing that their logistics and accommodation are all taken care of whilst they fully immerse themselves in relaxing and enjoying their unique adventure on the beautiful Norfolk Coast. Read all about Amanda’s experience of her first long distance walking trail on our Curlew Holiday. Make a cuppa, sit down and immerse yourself in reading all about her beautiful adventure: Day 1 – Wide Open Skies  “It’s at this point that I should add that I have never done any long distance walking. At all. The beauty of MarGins is that they do all the hard work –minus the walking that is! They set up, take down and move on a fully equipped OZ Tent, along with your luggage. They do all the bookings and provide you with […]

MarGins Accessible Glamping

Accessible glamping

Since launching MarGins Holidays, being able to welcome as many people on our holidays as possible has been very important to us. But being a new business and quite a unique one, we really needed to concentrate on getting our ‘service’ right first before we could explore ways of making our tents and ultimately our holidays more accessible to all. Feedback has always been very positive in what we include in our tents. By supplying almost everything that guests will need for a hassle free luxury camping holiday, means we are attracting guests who haven’t camped before, guests who wanted to camp with friends and family and guests just wanting a camping holiday without the hassle of buying everything and having nowhere to store it all especially if they only want a few days away camping a year. So after a couple of years in business and gaining more of an understanding of what we […]

MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays

An adventure awaits you…..

We’re into our 3rd season now and very pleased to say we have already received some amazing feedback on our walking holidays. What is absolutely awesome though, is over 50% of our guests have never camped before (!) and the only walks they’ve previously done are short walks which usually include a pub (obviously no problem there!). This means our guests are not only getting to immerse themselves in all the beautiful Norfolk coast has to offer but experience the personal challenge of walking between 4 to 7 hours on consecutive days plus sleeping under canvas for the first time! “As we are about to embark on day 3 of our Sandmartin Walk, this group of non-walkers and NEVER campers are really quite chuffed to have made it 🙂 Much of the credit for this has to go to Gin and Mark for fabulous organisation and not least, putting our tents up so we haven’t […]

The tent elf team!

We are truly blessed this year to have a small but perfect team of enthusiastic and motivated tent elves. I’ve run a business before and know how attracting the right people to join your team is such an important element of your businesses success (or not!). MarGins holidays are based purely on logistics, providing essential equipment for our guests comfort and safety and thinking on your feet on a regular basis. We don’t work set hours and being a very small business, we really can’t afford to offer anyone full time employment.     We are delighted that David, a family friend, would like to support us again this year. His help last year was simply awesome and there were day’s I quite simply could not have coped without him……a storm on Happisburgh cliffs springs to mind!! This year we’re delighted to welcome on board Kelly who has an absolute zest for the outdoors, […]

Deep History Coast

The Deep History Coast

Did you know that all of our Walking Holidays meander through some, if not all, of Norfolk’s Deep History Coast? Norfolk’s coast has revealed some of the most spectacular finds. Happisburgh is the oldest archaeological site in Northern Europe and West Runton yielded the most complete fossilised mammoth skeleton ever found in the UK. The soft clay cliffs of this part of Norfolk’s coast (between Weybourne and Cart Gap at Happisburgh) are considered the best place to study Ice Age geology in the UK – we have the fastest receding coastline in Europe. As soon as they appear, new finds can be worn down or buried; leaving archaeologists to do their work in a race against time and tide. Finds on the Deep History Coast have provided the earliest evidence for human occupation so far discovered in northern Europe. They place early humans here in Norfolk some 350,000 years earlier than had been thought. They also […]

Award Winners!

We only went a won the Environment Award at the North Norfolk Business Awards 2019!  Respecting our environment has been at the heart of what we do from the very beginning, so we’re are incredibly proud (and overwhelmed) at receiving this award. Being sustainable has been a part of our lifestyle for quite a few years now. We’ve always loved upcyling, re-using or re-purposing ‘things’ but as it’s become more apparent that we all need to be making changes we’ve embraced the zero waste lifestyle as much as possible. It’s not made easy for any of us though with so much single use plastics, most fruit and vegetables wrapped in unnecessary plastics in supermarkets (sometimes twice!) and the cost to buy separately, not in plastic packaging, more expensive (why!?), what we can and can’t recycle is confusing and different in every county (and district in some cases) and so much more. But, as with many […]
