MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays

An adventure awaits you…..

We’re into our 3rd season now and very pleased to say we have already received some amazing feedback on our walking holidays. What is absolutely awesome though, is over 50% of our guests have never camped before (!) and the only walks they’ve previously done are short walks which usually include a pub (obviously no problem there!). This means our guests are not only getting to immerse themselves in all the beautiful Norfolk coast has to offer but experience the personal challenge of walking between 4 to 7 hours on consecutive days plus sleeping under canvas for the first time! “As we are about to embark on day 3 of our Sandmartin Walk, this group of non-walkers and NEVER campers are really quite chuffed to have made it ūüôā Much of the credit for this has to go to Gin and Mark for fabulous organisation and not least, putting our tents up so we haven’t […]

Award Winners!

We only went a won the Environment Award at the North Norfolk Business Awards 2019!¬† Respecting our environment has been at the heart of what we do from the very beginning, so we’re are incredibly proud (and overwhelmed) at receiving this award. Being sustainable has been a part of our lifestyle for quite a few years now. We’ve always loved upcyling, re-using or re-purposing ‘things’ but as it’s become more apparent that we all need to be making changes we’ve embraced the zero waste lifestyle as much as possible. It’s not made easy for any of us though with so much single use plastics, most fruit and vegetables wrapped in unnecessary plastics in supermarkets (sometimes twice!) and the cost to buy separately, not in plastic packaging, more expensive (why!?), what we can and can’t recycle is confusing and different in every county (and district in some cases) and so much more. But, as with many […]

“Samphire, our new best friend!!”

Our aim has always been to make our tents as comfy and welcoming as possible for our guests. The reaction when our guests first arrive to their tent has always been overwhelmingly positive, so when a lovely couple who walked our Avocet Walking Holiday (the full 84 miles of the Norfolk Coast Path from Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea) wrote about their bond with their tent, named Samphire, it literally gave me goosebumps: Monday 6th August – Saturday 11th August,¬†84 miles……..Here we go Monday – Arrived at the campsite in¬†Burnham Deepdale to be¬†greeted by ‘Samphire and her tent elf, the tent elf’s Mum and dog – Samphire has become our ‘New Best Friend!!!’¬† Tuesday – 14 miles and there she is ‘Samphire’ looking quite grand as we approached the campsite, cake, apple juice, magazines to read and our lovely comfy bed – fairy lights an added twinkle – How I love our tent…..¬† Wednesday – ‘Five Miles […]

‘Love Norfolk’s’ MarGins adventure

As you know, 2017 was MarGins first year. So, when Jess from Love Norfolk offered to ‘trial and review’ one of our holidays with her partner, obviously we jumped at the chance. Jess has a real passion for all things Norfolk and loves the big outdoors, so was up for a MarGins Walking Adventure. I’ll be honest, we were a tad nervous as this was one of our first walking holidays for guests. Had we included everything they may need? Is there enough food and drink? Will the weather be kind?? We were very relieved that the answer was yes to our questions, even the weather was reasonably kind, especially on the first and last day (typical) and Jess managed to take some amazing photo’s that totally capture what our holidays and the beautiful Norfolk Coast is all about. Click here to read all about Jess’s MarGins adventure and absolutely stunning photo’s. We would like […]

Meeting Julia

Walking is so ‘in’ right now! Did you see ITV’s Britains 100 Favourite Walks? A whole two and a half hours of walking inspiration. Who would have thought that walking programmes would make prime time TV? Julia Bradbury has played a big part in making walking so popular and I must have watched most, if not all, of her programmes on walking. Wainwrights Walks, Countryfile, Best Walks with a View, Britains Best Walks….. Last weekend we were very lucky to meet Julia Bradbury at The Destinations Show at Olympia in London. Julia was interviewed on the Stanfords Travel Writers Show stage, talking very openly about her passion for walking and where it all started. It was her father who encouraged her to go on walking adventures with him when she was quite young. This really hit home for me, I have such lovely memories of my late father encouraging us to ‘get outside and explore’ […]

Walk this way….

OK, hands up if you’ve already lapsed on your New Years resolutions…….. I don’t make resolutions anymore but try to do more of the things that bring me happiness…….which mainly consists of walking and getting out in the big outdoors. I absolutely love my daily walk with Miss Brylie (beloved pooch). The lovely Claire Gurney is a specialist fitness and Pilates instructor based at Treat in Norwich, Norfolk¬†who we’ve teamed up with to offer the magical Back to Nature Weekends. I asked Claire to put into words why walking is so good for us: Walk Your Way to Health Walking is one of the easiest, cheapest and most enjoyable forms of exercise around. As seasoned walkers will know, walking is so much more than just an activity to keep us fit. It has many health benefits, most which can be achieved from as little as 20 minutes of brisk walking each day. Here are some […]

Festive Wishes

My adventure….a year on (part 3): It’s the time of year to reflect and I think its fair to say, 2017 has been quite an eventful one….for all the right reasons. This morning I attended a networking event in Norwich. When asked the question “What do you do?” it suddenly dawned on me that it was at this same event last year that I answered this question for the first time since launching MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays. I remembered that feeling of apprehension and slight awkwardness when answering, wondering what their reaction would be, especially as I hadn’t even attempted to put a tent up yet! I was very relieved to get such a positive and enthusiastic response and so pleased that this reaction has continued throughout our first year. Now when I start to introduce myself at networking events I get very excited, relieved (and quite overwhelmed), when people say they have heard […]

My adventure….a year on (2)

Communication! So many ways to do this these days but for me, I still think it’s good to talk! Communication is something that comes up time and time again as one of the most important elements in business, it can very quickly become overlooked due to many reasons, but usually it’s down to excessive workload and lack of time keeping and organisation. From the beginning of ‘my adventure’ I was adamant that communication would be my top priority with all our stakeholders, no matter how busy or tired I got. I’m not a business or management specialist but I know that, for me, how I’m greeted and spoken to makes a big difference on the outcome of whether I would like to engage with that person and pursue a conversation and ultimately form a partnership with them. Starting a new business is never going to be easy but looking back over the last year, communication […]

New Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path Adventure Atlas

We are very privileged to be some of the first people to get our hands on the new Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path Adventure Atlas published by A-Z Maps the official partner of National Trails. We launched MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays shortly after the newest section of the Norfolk Coast Path was opened from Sea Palling to Hopton-on-Sea on the Suffolk border in 2016. Two of our walking packages¬†(The Avocet and The Lapwing) includes this new section but it quickly became apparent there was no official map for this section, which would cause a problem for our guests wanting to walk this new section. A-Z maps have been so supportive of our new venture and completely understood our dilemma. So we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Kieran from A-Z maps who has managed to get these fantastic atlases published in time for our guests walking the […]
